Canadian Experience Class

Note: As of January 2015, Eligible candidates can apply under this stream via Express Entry.

A new avenue of Immigration for temporary foreign workers and foreign student graduates with professional, managerial and skilled work experience.

This Immigration class is for Temporary foreign workers or a foreign students who graduated in Canada. This category was introduced by the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration starting September, 17 2008 to facilitate the permanent immigration of temporary residents who are well adapted and already contributing to the Canadian economy.

In the recent regulation, CIC also included those who have left Canada, but otherwise meet the requirements as workers or graduates, to be eligible for applying provided they do so within one year of leaving their job in Canada.

You must meet these minimum requirements to apply for permanent residence under the Canadian Experience Class.

As a Foreign worker you must  have:

  • Two years of skilled (NOC 0,A,B) Canadian work experience within 3 years of the applicaton date.
  • Ability to communicate in the language required at the work place and skill level.

As a Foreign student you must have:

  • Graduated from a Canadian post secondary institution with at least one year of full time work experience in the skilled level occupation (NOC 0,A,B).
  • Ability to communicate in the language, required at the work place and skill level.

A Foreign worker or student can apply in this category while working in Canada or within one year of leaving their job in Canada.

Applicants do not meet the minimum requirements if:

  • Their work experience in Canada is not classified as category 0, A or B under the NOC list;
  • They do not have at least two years of Canadian work experience;
  • They have not demonstrated the necessary language skills, depending on skill level needed.
