What is the Child and Home Support Worker Pilot program?

The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot have replaced two Caregiver streams and both provide an eligible caregiver with a pathway to permanent residence once they have earned two years of Canadian work experience. An applicant can obtain a occupation specific work permit as either a Home Child Care Provider or as a Home Support Worker.

Canada continues to recognize the important role of home care workers and caregivers in supporting seniors, children, and people with disabilities. Under Canada’s 2026–2028 Immigration Levels Plan, the federal government is focusing immigration programs on addressing labour shortages and attracting skilled workers needed across the country. Caregivers and home care workers in Canada remain an important part of this workforce.

Many eligible caregivers have already applied for Canadian permanent residence (PR) through federal caregiver and home care worker pilot programs.
