PUBLIC POLICY EXTENDED FOR VISITORS IN CANADA TO APPLY FOR EMPLOYER-SPECIFIC WORK PERMITS

IRCC extends Interim Authorization to Work policy for TRVs in Canada

IRCC announced the public policy which came into effect on August 24, 2020, to allow all visitors who are in Canada with valid status to apply for an employer-specific work permit from inside Canada. They don’t have to do the flagpole to get their work permits. Now, the IRCC has extended this public policy until February 28, 2023.

Eligibility Requirements:

For a foreign national to be eligible under this public policy, he must satisfy the below-mentioned requirements:

  • The foreign national must be in Canada with temporary status as a visitor. This also includes status extensions under IRPR 183(5), which is maintained status, at the time of work permit submission
  • The foreign national has submitted an employer-specific work permit application
  • The foreign national has remained in Canada with legal status since application submission
  • The foreign national has submitted the application on or before February 28, 2023.
